Heroes for Fire Victims Campaign

As most know, the American Red Cross is an organization which serves communities in times of need, mainly natural disasters. Following the recent flooding in South Carolina, the Red Cross has gone above and beyond to assist the great state of South Carolina. With the help of both partners and donations, the Red Cross was able to provide over 146,000 meals and snacks, 125,000 relief items, 6,000 health and mental services, and 45 shelters for victims. Clearly, the impact they have on our community is huge. At MSK Construction, serving our local community is something that is very important to us. Charleston is our home and we hope to serve it as best we can. That is why we have decided to join the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of the American Red Cross in their efforts.
While we fully support the flood relief efforts, we have decided to help with a different cause. A majority of their work in the past year has gone towards helping families that have been affected by house fires. This is a problem that will only worsen as we head into the winter months, and most people are not even aware of it. Because of this, they have created the Heroes for Fire Victims campaign. This campaign allows individuals to provide donations for families whose homes have been destroyed. In the 2014 fiscal year, the Heroes for Fire Victims campaign provided aid to approximately 1,164 individuals. This includes a variety of things: a safe place for victims to stay, monetary help for clothing and food, health services, and counseling. Since launching this campaign in October, 2014 the Red Cross has informed over 485,000 people regarding fire safety, reached out to more than 63,000 homes, helped with the installation of more than 127,000 fire alarms, and saved at least 27 lives.
By donating $1,275, the American Red Cross is able to provide help to a family of four (on average) following a house fire. The MSK team has donated to this campaign and our contribution went towards helping a North Charleston family of six whose apartment was completely destroyed. We realize how much our investment in the Heroes for Fire Victims Campaign can make a difference, and we plan on continuing our support. The American Red Cross has set a goal of $250,000 to assist 196 families and MSK is on board to help make this happen. If you are interested in donating to this cause, please contact Emily Fay at .
